I have a few pieces of video tape that I'd like to convert to digital images. What kind of hardware/software do I need?

I just had the same problem, but I think I figured it out. I used Windows Movie Maker. Follow the directions on this link.

This is great. However I do not have the correct ports on my PC. My 8mm, or VHS are only equiped with standard A/V ports. My PC has no such input. There must some hardware that will allow input to PC via USB or firewire.
Some of my Video is of decent quality, it's old, but not bad. I'd love to share.

Hopefully someone else can confirm this (as I'm not 100% sure), but I think a TV card will work. It's a card you install into your PC, that has A/V ports.

Ehh gonna need some more info on your camcorder honestly. From what you've said already though your pretty much SOL without getting a a/v conversion box or a video card, mainly because your camcorder feeds would be analog and have to be converted to digital before transfer.
