I reinstalled my computer software, mac, only because i was having problems with image grabber. it worked better on threads of 100 pics before another reinstallation, so i thought id try it. and that morning there was a new update of image grabber 5/28, but now 'get all pics does nothing'. same thing on different browsers, can someone help me?

Make a log file. To do that, go to the "Image Grabber" menu, click "Options", click on "Debugging" and check the boxes "Enable Console Logging" and "Enable Debug Logging", then click Ok. After that, try to go to a gallery and click "Get all pics on page". After you have waited for a short while, close it out, then disable the console/debug logging. (If you don't disable these, you will waste hard drive space and Firefox will run slow). Send the log file.

Use the option "Copy Log to Local Folder" in the debugging section.

After enabling the two check boxes, did you restart firefox? If not, then try this again. If you did, then something is seriously wrong. At the bare minimum, you should get a log file telling you that you tried to run the program. Let me know how that works.
and yeah, like web_surfer said, you need to click on "Copy Log to Local Folder". Or, you can browse straight to the directory... It's located in "Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<current profile>\extensions\{E4091D66-127C-11DB-903A-DE80D2EFDFE8}\logs\log.txt"
hope that helps.

i restarted yes, i hit log file, and documents and settings? is that mac?
cybormatt

woops sorry... forgot you're on a mac. I don't know where the base folder is for you guys, but the part from "mozilla" and beyond stays the same.
come to think about it, i've never got the chance to test the logging services on a mac. I don't know if it works.
anyway, when you hit the "copy log to local folder", you have to pick a good place to save it. You will then browse (with some file explorer) to that location. the file "log.txt" should be there.
if not, we can always check the error console to see what it reports. First, you will possibly have to enable a feature in firefox. Go to the location bar and type in:
about:config
you will then type in "javascript.options.showInConsole" into the filter. If the value of this setting is true, leave it alone. If it is not, then double click on it to set it to true.
After that is said and done, you might need to restart firefox... but do it just to be on the safe side.
Now, go to the "Tools" menu and look for something along the line of "Error console" or "javascript console". Once that is open, you'll probably want to clear the existing messages. Now minimize it (or move it to the next screen or whatever).
In the main firefox window, re-create the scenario that is causing you trouble. I still don't quite understand what your problem is, but okay, do whatever it is. You should be experiencing something that wasn't expected. Yeah or something.
The next task is to go back to the error console and see what new messages come up. You should be able to tell (by carefully reading the message) which messages are probably not related to IHG (imagehost grabber). I want to know what it is saying that is most likely related to IHG. If you have to, tell me everything. make screen shots if you desire.
that is all for now.

Okay, I re-read your messages and now they make more sense. I was just a little confused about something and it ended up being nothing.
Does the "Pick a download directory" window come up? This is important because it will help me pinpoint the problem area.
I want you to check something in the "about:config". In the filter box, type "extensions.imagegrabber.lastdldir". Tell me if there is anything set. If so, clear it out and then try to download. If not, let me know.

Pick a download directory i havent seen is that after i hit 'all pics on page'?
cybormatt
1st June 2009, 03:36 AM
Is there actually a value associated with "extensions.imagegrabber.lastdldir" ??? To clear it, right click and click "reset".
And yeah, "pick a download directory" should pop up after you hit "get all pics on page". If that isn't coming then the problem must be somewhere in there.

cybormatt
10th June 2009, 09:56 AM
I don't know that you are screwed. I've looked over the compatibility with macs and it seems that about half of them work and half of them have trouble in some sort or another. I don't know if they are all related, but I know that It is extremely difficult for me to do anything without having my hands on a mac. I'm doing my best to research the way macs work but I'm ending up short when it comes to firefox.

I reinstalled again and it works now, thanks for your help
but still, with threads of 100 pics, it just runs and runs and nothing gets downloaded.
im assuming its because of my computer memory. i have the lastest system software which i do lack memory for but it still runs.
cybormatt
13th June 2009, 07:24 AM
a lack of physical memory will not prevent you from running my program. Most systems will use "virtual" memory, unless you specifically disable it. Basically, it uses hard drive space to store temporary data. It will make it slower, but it should still work.
i think the symptom that you describe is because you are trying to use it on an imagehost that is not supported. If it comes up and it says "running..." and nothing happens, then the imagehost is not supported. If it comes up and adds images to the queue and does nothing, then it could mean that that imagehost needs to be updated in the host file.
If you could provide a link to the thread that you are trying to use this on, then I can tell you if this is indeed the case. Remember that if the imagehost is a banned imagehost on dumpstersluts, try spacing out some of the letters, and make sure to use code tags for all links.

Yep, it definitely doesn't like macs, works fine on the same pages on Win7 and Firefox 3.5 Preview though.
Neither the Help or Options windows have any way of closing them on OSX, and I can't get the copy logfile thing to work either :(
Great addon though, luckily I have the option to use Win7 when I need it.

When I press the copy log button, but what I have found out now is that the missing gadgets thing may be due to tabmixplus, but it doesn't happen with both loaded on Windows.
The log in the profile directory doesn't seem to work at all btw, I've found where it should be, the dir is there, but nothing ever gets put in there, could it just be that it's not coping with the different paths or even the switch from \ to / or does Firefox sort that for you?
The path to the profile is ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/extensions/{E4091D66-127C-11DB-903A-DE80D2EFDFE8}/logs where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 alphanumeric chars (just like Windows Firefox has) and it's a hidden dir you have to use the commandline to get at.
Hope some of this helps :)

looks like it could be imagevenue that is causing the trouble. maybe something in the code???
if you look at my "host file editor" manual on my website, its a good start. after that, I'd be willing to do a walk through. its better this way so you know what I am telling you and how it applies to the stuff in the manual.

All seems to be working fine now, admittedly I've only tried three threads, but since none worked before, that's an infinite improvement ;) Logging is working too, once I figured out that the huge memory leak I've been suffering since I turned on the logging stuff was IHG going nuts because log.txt was read only somehow :(
BTW, until that read only file is fixed, it won't do anything, throws an unhandled exception repeatedly to the FFX error console about the file already existing (which I think is where the mem goes), so tunescool will need to find and delete it using terminal (unless he knows a way to get hidden folders showing in finder)
Two things I have discovered from this, Firefox on OSX (when things are going fine) uses a lot less mem than it does on Windows (with the same extensions loaded) and javascript is WAY faster
I declare it provisionally :fixed:
Do you still want a look at the log? It's pretty uneventful though now.
PS I still don't have any close gadgets on the options window, can close it with Esc, but it might throw a few people.

this is good news. I don't know why it would create the file read only. I specifically set permissions to write. but for whatever reason, firefox must have got retarded. Well, actually it's Gecko, but that's pedantics.
i have no interest in looking at your log file now. the purpose of it was to see why it wasnt working for the galleries he had trouble with.

My background is Amiga/DOS/Windows/Unix so I'm a little lost with the OS X GUI as well, hence me being one of the few Mac owners who starts Terminal as a matter of course
The good news is, I just found the easy way, uninstall the extension and install the latest version and it does the hard work for you.

I'm not sure why you uploaded that file. I'm guessing you ran into some sort of message in the error console that had this file referenced. Sending the file won't help me. The error message is more useful. If I can see what errors firefox is giving you when IHG starts acting up, then that would be the biggest help.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake. I packaged the latest update with a log file already in it. How silly of me. The log file you're looking at is actually from my computer.
I would like if you could try to "clear" the log by going to the "Options" (Under the "Image Grabber" menu), and then going to "Debugging" and then clicking on "Clear log". If that don't work, you will have to go and delete the file by hand. I'm not too familiar with the mac os gui, so I can't help you there.
After you have cleared the log, I would like for you to try and turning on the logs under "Debugging" in the "Options". You'll have to restart Firefox for this to take affect. Once you have these turned on, I want you to try and download something that normally acts up. After some time, go ahead and stop IHG. Turn of the logs, and restart Firefox. Then go see if IHG created a new log file. If it did, please send it (or post it).

If you are adding a new entry, you will want to hit "add host" after you've put the stuff you want into the text boxes.
If you are modifying a current entry, you will want to hit "update file" after you've made the changes.
