View Full Version : ImageBam change?

ImageBam appears to have made some kind of change that has rendered ImageGrabber useless. Example: http://www.vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=508861&postcount=11

Hi I'm new here but I'd like to help. Very annoying when they make silly changes like that but still easy to resolve. Using the host file editor change the entry for imagebam from "ID: image" to "loading" to match the alt text instead of the ID tag. Don't forget to restart your browser (closing all its windows!) before testing. Hope that helps.

Bummer, did not solve the problem on my end - any other suggestions or more clear instructions on making this change?

It's real easy to make this change in the host file, but it has changed nothing on my end....any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, AM

Works for me using FireFox 3.0.5
Tools --> Image Grabber --> Host File Editor...
Click on the drop-down field at the top (it's blank til ya click it), scroll down to imagebam, and replace "ID: image" with "loading". Don't forget to include the quotation marks, too, and click Update File when you're done.

Would someone who's made this change successfully to the host file post their modified host file so others can use it?
I'm not sure why, but I have a lot of trouble using the host file editor. I'm on a Mac, and using Noscripts and other adblock software . . .whatever the reason, I find that changes that I make to the host file, like the swap for "loading" for Imagebam, don't "stick"
If someone has the edited host file that now can rip Imagebam, please upload it somewhere
Thanks.

Yeah, I can confirm the same problem on mac. Nothing I do will actually update my changes to the host file. Every time I open it again, its returned to "ID: image". Can anyone help??

Hello. You have to replace "ID: image" with "ID: the_image".
This is my host file: http://rapidshare.com/files/211813107/hostf.xml

i tested the new version on imagebam with no luck. im using FF 2.0.0.11 and IHG 1.5.2. the host file looks fine: second link with ...?ID=... in it. the page is loaded (shown in "Response Text"), but each single request times out. the page loads fine manually.
what else could be wrong?

is FF 2.0.11 maybe too old / incompatible? which version do you use?

I use the latest version of FF (3.0.10). Maybe Cybormatt knows if that's the problem. Wait for his answer.

There should be no difference. In theory, my extension should work to as far back as FF 1.5... However, I never tested it. It's possible I used a piece of code that works with FF3 but not FF2... you should check your error console under "Tools->Error Console" or I think for FF2 "Tools->Javascript Console" to see if any messages come up while you try to download from that gallery.
Then again, what is the harm in upgrading to FF3 to see if that helps.

I have confirmed that it is indeed a bug with the older Firefox. I'm looking into it right now to see what it is and hopefully have a fix.

Okay, finally, I found the bug and now you should be able to use your older version of FireFox with IHG. Go download and install the latest version and let me know how it works.

you were quicker fixing this, than me checking the error console. and it IS fixed now.
my older ff has another neat plugin, called "thumbs" and i think it's not going to be updated anymore. that's why i didnt switch so far.
many thanks!

There are options for older plugins with newer firefox. First, you can modify the "install.rdf" in the extension's folder. Not too difficult, but I will save you the grief. The second option is to disable compatibility checking. Check out this link:

It will save alot of grief!

Hi
I'm having the same problem with imagebam.
i have tried to change the Host file for imagebam but cannot find ID: image" anywhere.
I'm using FF 3 and imagegrabber 1.5.9.
My code for imagebam looks like this:
function(pageData, pageUrl) {
var retVal = new Object();
var sPattern = pageData.match(/"(http:\/\/.+\.imagebam\.com\/dl\.php\?ID=(\d+)&sec=\w+)"/);
if (!sPattern) {
retVal.imgUrl = null;
retVal.status = "ABORT";
}
else {
retVal.imgUrl = sPattern[1];
retVal.status = "OK";
retVal.fileName = sPattern[2] + ".jpg";
}
return retVal;
}
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Everything looks good, and it sounds like you've got the latest and greatest.
I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Start off by telling me some information about your computer. What platform (ie mac, pc), which OS (win xp, win vista, os X, etc..), any relevant information about your configuration, like for instance, are you using a special version of firefox, or are you running any firewall software... stuff like that.
next, give me a log file so I can take a look at whats going on with your stuff. then email it to me.
thats all for now

hey mate
think I've got it sorted now..
Before I was looking to insert the word "loading" intot hat code somewhere...
But I just replaced the whole lot of that code with "loading" and it now works!
Cheers!
