i seem to keep getting alot of green blocks, but if i play it through windows media player classic, they work fine

yeah I've been trying to work out what codec they're recorded in too. hope someone can help?

You can play these videos with VLC, MPC or your dvd player software (encoded in MPEG2)

I was having the same problem, getting the green blocks and sometimes not even that, just a black screen. I installed the newest version of K-Lite Codecs and that worked. I got it from here:
