View Full Version : Right click, "save picture as" problem

Every now and then, when I'm saving pics from a website, I get a frustrating problem. After I right click and select "save picture as", sometimes IE will only let me save as a bitmap file. Sometimes if I close the browser and go back in again, it will work. I can't figure out what triggers it to happen.
Anyone experienced this?

yeah... i just save as a bitmap file and then change the whole batch convert the whole damn file with faststone image viewer... works like a charm and only takes a few minutes... only thing that pisses me off about the bmp files is that you have to give it a new name... yesterday i downloaded 1800 pics that way.. took me damn near the whole day... jpg is so much nicer...

Try clearing your temporary Internet cache.

Sounds like a lot of work :(

Tried that in the past. It doesn't seem to fix it.

I've just started to use Firefox, and it seems to work fine, though at some pages, I can't rightclick and save target as, atleast not when it's a link for a movie. :D lol

More and more sites are incorperating a cgi script that prevents right clicking.... Theres a good chance it's not just IE thats giving you problems.

i would recommend you to change from IE to Opera or FF. I personally use Opera and everthing is fine, but FF is good, too. Maybe this little guy helps you: http://tinypic.com/fk713o.gif

You are correct, a few model sites I've been on have that bullshit script. And I thought it was IE at first then I took a look at the source and I found the problem.
And in regard to FF, or O being the best browser... I just checked a few of my websites stats and at least 75% of the visitors to all of my sites use IE. :D

how does this work??
when you view a picture, it has been downloaded to your computer. can you pull the pic from the browsers cache?

In cases that use the script that prevents right-clicking, you can usually just check the source code for the image url and then copy/paste it into your download manager.

in internet explorer for the bitmap problem.
Tools --> Internet Options --> click the Delete Files --> click the check box Delete all offline content --> press OK.
then restart IE.
