How to capture webcams using Camtasia, and produce the video to upload

Hi Guy's,
As a follow up on how to make screencaps of a video. A lot of new people want to know what program to use to caputer msn, cam4 and so on.
Now I understand there are different programs out there, but I myself use techsmith camtasia, which can be downloaded below. And therefore that wil be used in this tutorial. Also the DIVX codec will be needed to encode your videos into managable sizes and produce a decent quality, the link is also included. Obviously if you want to source this yourself, go ahead

Step 1

I really shouldn't need to tell you to install the program, but obviously have it installed and also the DIVX codec aswell. Once this is done, open up the camtasia recording software, it will open up as below

Step 2
Next you need to go to the settings. Go to the tools tab, and then options.

Step 3
In the first tab on the options, make sure the Save options is set to Save as .avi. and then make your way onto video tab. Here you need to change the codec. So click on the "video compression" button, and this will open another window. Select the DIVX codec from the drop down list. And click OK on all windows. This offers better compression and keeps your files smaller when saved, especially for them longer recordings.

Step 4

Click on select area to record, and drag to the size of the camera window you want

Step 5
Once you have finished recording, click stop, and it will bring up a preview window of the video, you can either save the video or delete the temporary file and discard it.

Step 6
After you have saved or deleted, another window will open allowing you to ether make a new video, or edit and produce the one you just have saved in camtasia's studio software.

Next to produce the video and watermark!

Step 1
First you need to open the program, it will come up something similar as to below

Step 2
You need to import your newly made video, or old video into camtasia's workspace. Unless you clicked onto editing your video after recording it, see above. The video will already be on the workspace

Step 3

Then drag your video file into the timeline bar at the bottom of the screen, this will bring up a properties box about the video in question, here you can change the resolution etc, however it automatically detects this all for you. On your right hand side you can then play the video and watch the production through and make changes as nessacery.

Step 4

Now you need to produce the video, so go to "File", and "Produce video as" this will open up a new properties box, in wich you can skip most of the pages by clicking next, as the settings are automatically chosen for you. However when you get to the screen below, this page allows you to add a watermark into the video, so you can claim this one as yours, however no watermarking someone elses videos and stealing credit, only watermark your own original captures!!! After this you can then chose where to save your video to and the file name etc. Obviously no point showing the screens of them stages as you can work that out for yourself!

hey tif the the codec provided doesnt work with ivsta but ill find another one over all thnaks :) one problem im having tho is all i can find is codecs to allow watching not to use on camtasia can you give me a tip or something?

find a full version of divx, or there is a few codec packs out there that come in a bundle that can be used, such as xpcodecpack.

Just type free codecs into google and use the first link i think
